I am a Computer Engineering major at Drexel University, but more importantly, I’m an activist, an artist, and the son of two Sudanese immigrants. I recognize the communities that built me into the person I am today. Whether it be the Sudanese community or the black community in Philly, I would not be the person I am today without them. As I gain more experience in my field, I hope to give back while still doing the things I love and propelling my career further.
I've been an activist all my life. Coming from a family of refugees, political activism was the only way we could stay connected to our homeland. As a member of the diaspora who is privileged enough, I believe it's my duty to speak out when I see injustices. Whether it's marching in the nation's capital or co-releasing a documentary highlighting my high school's history of blatant racism, I consider my activism an essential component of who I am.
Photography is the ever-increasing challenge I have placed upon myself. An expression of not just my perspective of the world, I consider my photography a form of storytelling. Every shoot shows my subject and the persona they put on for the rest of us to see.
